Coursework & Grades
Following are the kinds of courses you need to take while in high school and the number of years you need to take them. You should work to consistently make strong grades in these courses.
English: 4 years required
Math: 3 or 3.5 years required, 4 years recommended
Social sciences: 2 years required, 4 years recommended
Lab sciences: 2 years required, 4 years recommended
Language other than English: 2 years required, 4 years recommended
Flexible academic units: 2 years required, 4+ years recommended
Test Scores
We accept either the ACT or SAT I , and we don’t prefer one over the other. Your scores will be used in our decision-making process, as well as for course placement and academic advising.

ACT Score: 27-33
SAT Score (no writing)*: 1340-1480
TOEFL: 102-110
GPA*: 3.32-3.88
ESSAY
Explain your interest in the major you selected and describe how you have recently explored or developed this interest inside and/or outside the classroom. You may also explain how this major relates to your future career goals. If you're applying to the Division of General Studies, explain your academic interests and strengths or your future career goals. You may include any majors or areas of study you're currently considering.

If you know what major you want to pursue at Illinois, seek out experiences and opportunities related to it now. Doing so will not only show your passion and motivation, but it will also help you in getting a feel for your potential field.
