Description

All international freshmen and transfer students who are admitted are considered for a Global Excellence Scholarship. These scholarships cover either the full difference or half the difference between resident and non-resident tuition rates. Transfer students may receive Maroon awards of up to three years when entering the University in the Fall semester (transfer students entering in Spring semester will be considered for scholarship on a funds-available basis). Awards are competitive, based on academic merit—students selected for awards are among the best in their high school class and show a record of very strong academic preparation. There is no separate scholarship application required; students are considered based on an overall assessment of their on-time admission application.

International Furloughing Missionary

 Loan, /scholarships for those in full-time Christian ministry in a non-U.S. country that's not their home. The award is for a master's degree at Wheaton College Graduate School to enhance ministry. Recipients must return to ministry to earn loan forgiveness (1yr.=25%). This merit-based award covers tuition and insurance. Based on need, more may be given for living expenses.

International Christian Leader

Loan, /scholarships for those in full-time Christian ministry in their non-U.S. home country to obtain their master's degree at Wheaton College Graduate School. Government-funded US scholarships for international students

Fulbright Foreign Student Program

The Fulbright Foreign Student Program enables graduate students, young professionals and artists from abroad to study and conduct research in the United States. The Fulbright Foreign Student Program operates in more than 155 countries worldwide. Approximately 4,000 foreign students receive Fulbright scholarships each year.

The Fulbright Foreign Student Program is administered by binational Fulbright Commissions/Foundations or U.S. Embassies. All Foreign Student Program applications are processed by these offices. 

Requirements & Eligibility

In the upcoming academic year, more than 400 FLTAs will live, study and teach at American colleges and universities across the United States.

IIE invites institutions to join hundreds of other colleges and universities across the U.S. which are enjoying the enriching, rewarding and beneficial experience of hosting an FLTA.  Please note that the deadline for host institutions to apply is January 20th.

There are two basic requirements to becoming a host institution for a Fulbright FLTA:

In order to host a Fulbright FLTA, institutions must provide tuition and fee waivers covering all costs related to the two courses per semester that FLTAs must take. FLTAs may take courses on an audit basis. The FLTA Program is a non-degree program. Offering credit for coursework taken by an FLTA is at the discretion of the host institution.

Host institutions must arrange appropriate duties for the FLTA. FLTAs may:

Work up to 20 hours per week

Serve as the instructor of a language course or serve in a more traditional assistant role. If they will serve as the primary instructor for a language course, at least one hour per week should be scheduled with the supervisor/mentor for planning and to review performance and address any concerns. FLTAs must serve as instructors for the language in which they received their Fulbright grant. For example, Arabic language FLTAs who may be fluent in French cannot teach a French language course. FLTAs cannot teach other courses (history, business, political science, international relations). They may guest lecture in these courses but their primary role must be the instruction of the language. Please describe the duties and expectations you have for your FLTA in as much detail as possible on the application form.

Supportive administrators and supervisors willing to mentor an FLTA and be flexible

Geographic diversity

Colleges and universities in communities where access to native speakers is limited

Schools that serve minority populations

Campus facilities

International student support

Schools interested in hosting FLTAs in the less commonly taught languages

Who can host?

Host Institutions come in all shapes and sizes and represent the diversity of American education. Host institutions include:

Small or large, private or public undergraduate colleges

Small or large, private or public graduate universities

Community Colleges

Minority Serving Institutions

Please note the following special restrictions:

Fulbright FLTAs are funded for one academic year. There are no renewals permitted for individual FLTAs. In particular, Chinese FLTAs can only participate in the program for one academic year (9-10 months), no matter the circumstance.

Fulbright FLTAs are sponsored as J-1 non-degree students. Sponsorship cannot be transferred to host institutions when their Fulbright grant is complete.

미국의 유명 장학금 Scholarship 소개

명성도 있고 수령액도 만만치 않은 장학금을 타내는 것은 대학 진학을 계획 중인 고교생들과 대학생들의 공통된 희망사항이다. 매년 150만개에 달하는 각종 장학금이 대학, 자선단체, 기업들에 의해 미 전역의 고교생 및 대학생들에게 지급된다. 장학금은 알다시피 되갚을 의무가 없는‘공짜 돈’이다. 따라서 수많은 우수학생들이 장학금을 한 푼이라도 더 타내려고 치열한 경쟁을 벌인다. 장학금 수상을 위해서는 꼼꼼한 리서치가 필수이며 사전에 관련정보를 입수하는 등 미리 준비해야 한다. 경제가 어렵다는 말을 여기저기서 많이 듣지만 자격을 갖춘 학생들을 기다리는 명성있는 장학금은 얼마든지 있다. 미국 내 명성 있는 장학금들을 소개한다.



1. 게이츠 밀레니엄 장학금(Gates Millenium Scholars)
세계 굴지의 IT기업 마이크로소프트(MS) 창업자인 빌 게이츠와 부인 멜린다 게이츠가 창설한 장학금으로 매년 커뮤니티 서비스에서 탁월한 리더십을 발휘하거나 과외활동이 뛰어난 소수계학생 1,000명에게 지급된다.

목표로 하는 학위(일부 전공에 한해 대학원 학위도 포함)를 취득할 때까지 장학금이 지급되며 액수는 각 가정의 재정상황과 다른 재정보조 혜택여부에 따라 다를 수 있다.

- 아시안, 히스패닉, 흑인, 아메리칸 인디안 학생
- 미 시민권자 또는 영주권자
- 고교 GPA(Unweighted) 4.0 만점에 3.3 이상 취득자 또는 고교 졸업자격시험(GED) 통과자

2. 코카콜라 장학금(Coca-Cola Scholars Program)
12학년생들을 위한 장학금으로 매년 50명에게 일인당 2만달러, 200명에게 일인당 1만달러를 지급한다. 보통 11학년을 마친 뒤 8월1일~10월31일 신청서를 접수하는데 준결승 진출자로 2,200명을 먼저 가려낸 후 2차 심사를 통해 2월에 장학금을 수상하는 250명의 파이널리스트를 최종 선발한다. 파이널리스트 명단에 이름을 올리면 4월에 코카콜라 본사가 있는 애틀랜타에 가서 인터뷰를 거쳐야 하는데 이 인터뷰에서 얼마의 장학금을 받을지 결정된다.

3. 내셔널 메릿 장학금(National Merit Scholarship Program)
대학 입시철인 매년 10월이면 최우수 학생의 상징으로 여겨지는 ‘내셔널 메릿 장학금’을 타내기 위한 고교생들의 경쟁이 치열하다.

비영리 기관인 ‘내셔널 메릿 장학금 코퍼레이션’ (NMSC)에서 주관하는 이 장학금은 대학에 진학할 예정인 우수 고교생들에게 수여되며 전국적으로 매년 150만명이 모의 SAT 시험인 PSAT(Preliminary SAT)를 치르는 것으로 장학금 경쟁에 뛰어든다. 결승진출자(Finalist) 명단에 이름을 올리는 1만 5,000명 중 8,300명 정도가 내셔널 메릿 장학금(일인당 2,500달러), 대기업 후원 메릿 장학금, 대학 후원 메릿 장학금 중 하나를 받게 된다.

미국을 대표하는 PC 제조사 중 하나인 ‘델’의 창업주 마이클 델과 부인 수잔 델이 설립한 ‘마이클 & 수잔 델 파운데이션’이 매년 저소득층 우수 학생들에게 지급하는 장학금으로 일인당 2만달러가 제공된다. 2004년 이후 300여명의 학생들이 총 4,900만달러 상당의 장학금을 수상했다.

자동차 제조사 GM의 계열사인 뷰익이 지급하는 장학금으로 액수가 꽤 크며 경쟁도 치열하다. 100명의 학생에게 4년 동안 일인당 최고 10만달러까지 제공되며 추가로 1,000명의 학생에게 일인당 일시불로 2,000달러가 지급된다.
