First-Year Admission

College of Engineering
To be admitted, you must:
Present an ACT math score of 25 or higher, (SAT math: 640*/620**), and a cumulative GPA of 3.00.
Meet the Regent Admission Index (RAI) score requirement of 245 or higher for Iowa residents, 255 or higher for residents of other states.


Tippie College of Business—Direct Admission Program
Present an ACT composite score of 26 or higher (SAT: EBRW+M 1240*/CR+M 1170**).
Present a high school GPA of 3.60 or higher.


College of Liberal Arts & Sciences
To be admitted, you must:
 Meet the Regent Admission Index (RAI) score requirement of 245 or higher for Iowa residents, 255 or higher for residents of other states.


College of Education
The college offers degree and licensure programs for students interested in teaching at the elementary (grades K-6) and secondary (grades 7-12) levels.
First-year students enroll in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and indicate an interest in elementary education or major in the field they would like to teach (English, Spanish, mathematics, etc.) for secondary education. After completing required courses, students apply to a teacher education program in the College of Education. Admission is competitive.
First-year students who present an ACT composite score of 27 or higher (SAT: EBRW+M 1280*/CR+M 1210** ) and a high school GPA of 3.8 or higher are admitted directly to the Elementary Teacher Education Program.

과거 버지니아주 학생들 목표 대학 전원 합격, 기분 좋은 출발.


버지니아주에도 한국 교민 분들이 많이 사시는 것 같습니다. 어머님들이 자주 문의주시는 State 이지요.

과거 찰스샘의 학생들 중 버지니아주 출신들은 코넬, 보스턴칼리지, 브리검영 등 전원 목표대학에 합격해 개인적으로 좋은 느낌이 있습니다.

Academic Requirements for Freshmen
Before you can be considered for freshman admission, you must complete:
18 units of high-school course work

ACT/SAT Requirements
Any student planning to apply for freshman admission to Virginia Tech is required to submit scores from either the ACT or the SAT. It is unnecessary to register for the extra “essay” section on the SAT the extra “writing” section on the ACT, or any SAT Subject Tests. We recommend that when you register to take the tests, you opt to have your scores sent electronically to Virginia Tech. This will ensure that you will be credited with the highest score combination possible when your application is reviewed. We will only consider the highest scores presented and will combine the highest test scores from multiple test dates when evaluating your application.


Send Transcripts (before Summer Orientation)
Send your final official transcripts of all high school transcript(s), as well as final college transcript(s) reflecting dual enrollment credit (if applicable), through the spring term so that it is received by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions before your scheduled summer orientation session. If we do not receive your final high school transcript(s) by August 1, we will not have confirmation that you met admissions requirements and, as a result, your offer will be rescinded and you will be unable to attend. Attendance at summer orientation and registration for fall courses does not exempt you from this requirement.

In order to receive credit through Advanced Placement (AP) or the International Baccalaureate (IB)program, you must have your AP or IB examination scores sent electronically, by the appropriate testing service, to the Office of the University Registrar, Virginia Tech.

SAT/ACT Requirements
Virginia Tech accepts either the SAT Reasoning Test (including critical reading and math) or ACT test scores. 

International Baccalaureate (IB) Credit
Virginia Tech awards college credit ONLY for the German Abitur, A Levels, International Baccalaureate, and AP courses.
