Odyssey Scholarships
Thanks to an extremely generous gift of $100 million from an anonymous alumnus, we are now able to offer an even more competitive financial aid package to many of our students. The Odyssey Scholarship program provides enhanced academic, social, and career support to students from lower-income families or who are the first in their families to attend college. Odyssey Scholars are selected on the basis of financial need and family circumstances and will be eligible for additional funding for study abroad and other costs (such as health insurance). Students must apply for need-based financial aid in order to be considered for this need-based University funded scholarship; students selected as Odyssey Scholars usually have family incomes under $90,000.
Odyssey Scholars entering the University in Autumn 2015 or later will also be guaranteed a summer internship or research opportunity with a minimum stipend of $4,000 for the summer between their first and second years in the College, and are also often eligible for additional support through our Odyssey Scholarship program.
Chicago-Area Scholarships
UChicago Promise
A groundbreaking investment in the academic future of Chicago high school students.
UChicago Promise is the University of Chicago’s pledge to help increase college access and readiness for Chicago high school students. UChicago Promise offers special scholarships for students from the Chicago area and also includes an Admissions Academy, which guides Chicago high schoolers toward selective four-year institutions, as well as mentoring, preparation, internships and more.
Chicago Public Schools (CPS) Scholarship
The University of Chicago awards full-tuition, four-year scholarships to a select number of graduates of Chicago Public Schools who are admitted to The College of the University of Chicago. Awards are made to outstanding students who show the greatest potential for making contributions to the academic, extracurricular, and community life of the College. Financial need does not affect admissions decisions.
Merit Scholarships
Exemplary students are selected to receive merit scholarships that are guaranteed for four years of study.
Our merit scholarships are among the oldest in the country, and are awarded to applicants on the basis of outstanding academic and extracurricular achievement, demonstrated leadership, and commitment to their communities. Merit awards are determined by Faculty Committee and the Office of College Admissions without consideration of financial need, and are guaranteed for four years of undergraduate study.
All students are automatically considered for merit scholarships; no additional merit scholarship application is required. All first-year applicants are eligible for merit scholarship consideration; transfer students are not eligible for merit-based scholarships. Scholarship winners will receive notification of their awards on a rolling basis through the end of April. Please note that only scholarship winners are notified.
National Merit Finalists
National Merit Finalists are granted awards from one of three sources: the National Merit Corporation, a sponsoring corporation, or from the University of Chicago. If you are a finalist in this competition, simply report to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation that the University of Chicago is your first-choice school. National merit finalists will receive a minimum award of $4,000 per year renewable for four years from either UChicago or an outside source; in cases where a student receives a National Merit scholarship sponsored by an outside source that is less than $4,000, the University of Chicago will make up the difference between this award and our minimum National Merit award (for example, we would provide an additional $3,000 per year to a student who receives a $1,000 per year National Merit scholarship sponsored by a company or organization).
Stamps Scholarships
The Stamps Scholarship recognizes exceptional students who exemplify leadership, perseverance, scholarship, service, and innovation. UChicago is proud to partner with the Stamps Family Charitable Foundation and offer Stamps Scholarships each year.
The Stamps Scholarship funds the full cost of undergraduate attendance, including tuition, fees, room, board, and allowances for books, personal expenses, and travel. The scholarship is renewable for four years (or 12 quarters) provided that recipients remain enrolled as full-time students in good standing with the College.
In addition to the cost of attendance, the Stamps Scholarship also supports a variety of co-curricular opportunities. Each Stamps Scholar receives $10,000 of enrichment funding to pursue educational opportunities outside of the classroom such as internships, research projects, and study abroad. UChicago Stamps Scholars are also eligible to attend special programming, workshops, and social events throughout the academic year. All applicants to the College will be considered for the Stamps Scholarship. Applicants who are nominated to the Stamps Foundation for the scholarship will be notified of their nomination and the interview process.
