  • Percent of Applicants Admitted: 24%
  • Test Scores -- 25th / 75th Percentile
  • SAT Critical Reading: 670 / 750,  Math: 650 / 740, SAT Writing: 660 / 750
  • ACT Composite: 30 / 33, English: 30 / 35,  Math: 28 / 32, Writing: 8 / 10
  • TOEFL Paper 600, iBT 100
Standardized Test Requirements
Vassar requires all applicants to submit standardized test results from either the ACT or the SAT. For candidates taking both the SAT and the ACT, Vassar will use whichever scores are higher.

SAT
Vassar will accept either the Pre-March 2016 SAT or the redesigned SAT. Vassar does not require the optional essay.
In assessing SAT scores, Vassar uses the highest individual subscores of the same version of the SAT from multiple test dates. For applicants submitting both the Pre-March 2016 SAT and redesigned SAT, the results will not be superscored across the two versions.

ACT
Applicants submitting the ACT are not required to submit the optional writing test.
In assessing ACT scores, Vassar uses the highest subscores taken from multiple test dates and recalculates a new composite score.

SAT II Subject Tests (Optional)

TOEFL/IELTS Requirements
In addition, if English is neither your first language nor the primary language of instruction you have used throughout secondary school (minimum of three full years in English), you should submit the results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Vassar typically expects scores of at least 100 on the Internet-based TOEFL and 600 on the paper-based version. As an alternative to the TOEFL, Vassar also accepts the IELTS. A minimum score of 7.0 on the IELTS Academic Test is required. Vassar does not grant waivers for TOEFL/IELTS based on SAT/ACT or other exams.

Vassar Scholarships
Vassar awards around $58,000,000 annually in scholarships. These scholarships come from Vassar’s endowment, money raised by Vassar alumnae/i clubs, and gifts from friends of the college.

Federal Grants
Students who qualify under the federal guidelines may receive grants from various federal programs—the Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant or the Pell Grant (for students from low to lower-middle income families). Students apply for these programs by completing the FAFSA which is required of all financial aid applicants.

New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)
Students who are residents of New York State and are U.S. citizens (or have applied for citizenship) are also required to apply for a TAP (Tuition Assistance Program) grant. Students apply for TAP by listing Vassar as one of the schools on the FAFSA. In the late spring, before they enter college, New York State will send them an Express Tuition Assistance Program Application to complete the process.

Other Sources of Aid
The Financial Aid Office urges applicants for financial aid to explore all possible sources of funds. Many companies and organizations offer scholarships to children of their employees. If your state has a scholarship program, be sure to apply. A free and easy way to search for scholarships that you might be eligible for is to register with FastWeb.

Scholarship Scams
A good rule of thumb: If you have to pay money in order to qualify for a “scholarship program ” or a “scholarship service,” it is almost certainly a scam. Visit the Scholarship Scams page to learn more.
