Take either the SAT, or the ACT (with the writing section). We do not prefer one test over the other, and if you have taken both the SAT and the ACT, you may submit official scores from both tests.

For students applying for fall 2017 and beyond, Rensselaer will not require students who choose to submit the ACT to take the optional writing section. 

SAT Subject Tests are optional, unless you plan to apply to one of our Accelerated Programs in law or medicine (see below):

Accelerated Program Testing Requirements

For students applying to either the Physician-Scientist Program or one of the accelerated law programs, Rensselaer requires EITHER:

The SAT AND two SAT Subject Tests (one in math and one in science-student’s choice)

OR The ACT (including the writing portion)

Rensselaer will require applicants for the Physician-Scientist Program or the accelerated law programs to submit EITHER:

The SAT (including the writing portion) AND two SAT Subject Tests (one in math and one in science-student’s choice)

OR The ACT (including the writing portion)

Complete the required essay.

Essay Requirements 

For most of our applicants, the essay completed as a part of the Common Application, the Universal College Application, or the Candidate’s Choice Application (personal statement) will fulfill our essay requirement.

The programs that require a specific essay, along with the essay topics, may be found below.

Accelerated Programs (Law/Medical)

State your reasons for aspiring to a career in law or medicine.

Architecture

State your reasons for choosing architecture as your profession.

Electronic Arts

Discuss your interests in the field of electronic arts and state how this is reflected in your portfolio.

Games and Simulation Arts and Sciences

State your reasons for choosing the field of games and simulation arts and sciences, making reference to your portfolio if one has been submitted.

Electronic Media, Arts, and Communication (EMAC)

State your reasons for choosing the field of Electronic Media, Arts, and Communication, making reference to your portfolio if one has been submitted.

Request a letter of recommendation from a counselor or teacher. 
A recommendation provided by a math or science teacher who knows you well is preferred.

If required, prepare your portfolio for submission. Submit your Application and Supplement Form (if not submitted online), your essay, letter of recommendation, and if required, your portfolio. Submit your Secondary and Midyear School Reports to your school’s guidance office. 총 4단계의 코스웍으로 실력향상.

당장 SAT 나 ACT 리딩이 어려운 학생들은 Pre-Level 부터 진행합니다.

Pre 코스웍에서 분석적 리딩 skill 들을 배워 나가면서 실전 테스트도 함께하지요. 대부분의 학생들이 10회 수업 이내에는 pass 합니다.

코스웍들에서는 어떤 내용들이 진행되지는 죄송하게도 비밀입니다. 

실전 테스트는 학생들의 실력을 분석하기 위함이며, 실재 실력은 코스웍을 통해 향상되는 것입니다.

또한 찰스샘 수업에 열심히 하고 주어진 Homework 만 잘해도 이렇게 실력이 향상되어 나갑니다. ^^ 

A 학생

Pre-level 실전 점수 추이를 보면 아래와 같이 48%->60%->78%->93% 4번의 실전으로 Pre 레벨을 pass 했습니다. 

오늘 수업 결과입니다. 기분 좋은 날이죠. ~

다음 수업 부터는 ACT 리딩 general 코스웍 수업을 받게 됩니다.  

B 학생

점수 추이는 48% -> 63% -> 88% 로 향상되었습니다. 

pre 실전 3회 만에 pass 했네요. 저번 토요일에 있었던 수업이고 지금은 SAT 리딩  general 코스웍 진행 중입니다. ~

C 학생

C 학생의 경우  45%->60%->65%->90% 로 향상되었습니다. 중간에 슬럼프에 빠진듯했지만 역시 4회 테스트만에 pass 했네요.

저번 목요일에 있었던 수업이구요, SAT 리딩 general 코스웍 진행중입니다.

We accept either the ACT or SAT I, and we don’t prefer one over the other. Your scores will be used in our decision-making process, as well as for course placement and academic advising. They may also be a factor when it comes to scholarship and aid decisions
