미시간 국제학생의 SAT 리딩 클리닉

환경적 요인에 의한 유학/이민 3-4년 차 Math 편중 학생들이 반전의 가능성 가장 커.

미시간에 거주하는 T 학생이 SAT 리딩 클리닉 수업을 시작했습니다. 이 학생의 경우, Math는 이미 800점을 받은 가운데, 목표대학 진학을 위해 부족한 리딩 점수를 향상시키는 것이 목표입니다. 이러한 상황은 이민/유학 중인 학생들에게 매우 일반적입니다. 그러나 찰스샘의 과거 티칭 결과를 보면, 미국에 12년 거주했지만 라이팅 이론이 부족한 학생보다, 이민/유학으로 3-4년 거주했지만 라이팅 이론이 잘 정리된 학생들이 점수 향상 속도와 폭이 더 좋은 것으로 분석되었습니다. 작년 미시간대에 합격한 C 학생과 매우 유사한 상황으로, 남은 기간 집중해서 끈기를 가지고 열심히 준비하면 목표로 하는 결과를 이룰 수 있을 것으로 예상합니다. ~

SAT/ACT 리딩 속도가 느린 학생들을 위한 팁

ACT의 경우 35분 동안 4개의 패시지의 40문제를 풀어야 하므로 상당히 빠른 리딩 속도가 필요합니다. 시험 1달은 남기고 필요한 리딩 속도에 도달하지 못한 학생들을 위해 현실적인 문제풀이 방법을 포스트합니다. 두 가지의 접근 방식이 아래와 같이 설명될 수 있습니다.

1. 패시지 skim 후 문제 풀기
전체 패시지를 자세히 읽지 않고 skim만 한 후 문제를 풀어가는 방식입니다. Skim의 의미는 Introdcution 과 conclusion 그리고 supporting 패시지의 첫 번째 그리고 마지막 문장들만 읽은 것을 의미합니다. 그렇게 skim 한 후 문제를 풀어가면서 reference 와 단어 문제들은 다시 돌아가 자세히 읽는 방식입니다. 아래의 두 번째 방식보다는 시간이 더 걸릴 수 있기 때문에 충분한 연습이 필요합니다.

2. 문제를 먼저 읽고 패시지 skim 하기
SAT 의 많은 문제들이 라인 넘버를 제공하기 때문에 전체 지문을 읽지 않고도 라인이 제공된 문제들은 우선적으로 풀 수 있습니다. 라인 관련 문장들을 읽다 보면 전체 내용 관련 문제들도 풀릴 수 있기 때문에 시간을 절약하는 방식입니다.

시험을 1달 정도 남기고도 시간 내에 모든 문제를 풀어낼 수 없다면, 이 둘 중 한 가지의 방식으로 남은 1달을 연습해 가능한 최고 점수를 받으려고 노력하는 것이 현실적입니다. 그렇다면 둘 중 어떤 방법이 해당 학생에게 맞는 방식일까요? 제한된 시간 내에서 두 가지 방식을 3-5 차례 시도해 더 정확도가 높은 방식이 그 학생에게 효과적인 방식이라 할 수 있습니다. 그러나 이러한 문제풀이 방식은 마지막 단계에서 적용하는 것이 올바르며, 가능하면 제한시간 내에 여유롭게 모든 문제를 풀어 낼 수 있도록 속도와 실력을 향상시키는 것이 고득점을 위한 최선의 방법이라 할 수 있습니다.

SAT 에세이 : 활용하기 좋은 부사 (Adverb) 모음 (First half) - 찰스 SAT 온라인 클리닉

부사 (adverb)는 문장 전체나, verb 또는 adjective를 수식하는 기능을 하지고 있습니다. Adverb를 잘 활용하면 설득적이고 효과적인 에세이 작성을 할 수 있습니다. adverb 단어를을 제한적으로 알고 있는 학생들을 위해 아래와 같이 리스트 했습니다. 분야별로 활용할 만한 단어를 찾아 시험 전에 미리 연습해 둔다면 보다 좋은 점수를 받을 수 있을 것으로 예상합니다.

SAT 에세이: 동사 (Verb) 활용 - 요약편

Students can choose to research climate change in the Canadian Arctic, urban ecosystems in New York City, or sea turtle conservation in Mexico. 4) Marine Biology with Sea Semester

7) NIH Summer Internship Program

8) Michigan Math & Science Scholars
The Michigan Math & Science Scholars High School Summer Program at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor encourages students to study math and science. 9) Drexel University College of Medicine
The Drexel University College of Medicine High School Summer Research Internship Program allows students at Philadelphia-area high schools to participate in 25 to 40 hours per week of biomedical research activities. Students attend seminars and learn how to use library and online resources for research. In October, students present their research on campus at the College of Medicine's annual research day. During the 8-week program, students receive a $1,500 stipend. To participate, students must be 16 and obtain a work permit.

10) Cornell University's Research Apprenticeship in Biological Sciences
Cornell University's School of Continuing Education and Summer Sessions offers the Research Apprenticeship in Biological Sciences program each summer for high school juniors and seniors. Students work in laboratories for 40 hours a week with Cornell professors, post-doctoral fellows and students on a research project for publication. Students can earn six college credits. Boston State University offers a summer intern program to gifted high school seniors. High school students perform college level experiments using state-of-the-art laboratories in the presence of college science professors. Applicants must be American citizens entering senior year of high school to meet eligibility requirements, and the six-week honors class internship may be completed while residing on campus by students who are unable to commute.
